中国体育代表团公布了北京奥运会开幕式入场旗手的人选，篮球运动员姚明当选。

8月6日，中国体育代表团公布了北京奥运会开幕式入场旗手的人选，篮球运动员姚明当选，这也是姚明继雅典奥运会之后，第二次当选中国代表团旗手。

1979年国际奥委会通过《名古屋决议》，恢复了中国奥委会在国际奥委会的权利。1984年新中国首次派代表团首次亮相奥运赛场以来，迄今为止中国已参加了6届奥运会。奥运开幕式上高举国旗走在代表团方阵之前的旗手历来是各国的“门面”，而到目前为止为中国撑起“门面”的都是中国男篮队员。
